Abstract

Figure 2.1 below shows the regulatory environment of Japanese banks, consisting of three elements — interest-rate regulations, restrictions on the type of business that can be undertaken and the international use of the yen. To what degree this restrictive system has become a burden for the banks can best be recognized by viewing the regulations in terms of fund procurement and fund employment.
