Abstract

You should now be aware of the basic framework of the English language and of some of the basic terms used to describe the various parts of speech and their functions. We now need to look at these in rather more detail in order to discover some of the typical problems which arise from not sticking to the accepted rules and conventions. It is not simply a case of obeying the rules for the sake of obeying rules. It is more a case of trying to obey the rules in order to avoid being unclear and ambiguous when we are communicating. 373
