Abstract

You will remember that a few brief comments were made about metaphysics at the beginning of the book. The purpose of this chapter is to examine a number of central metaphysical issues. But first we shall sketch out some of the differing views about the nature of metaphysics as a branch of philosophy and consider several influential criticisms.
