Part of the book series: Issues in Peacekeeping and Peacemaking ((IPP))

Abstract

This evaluation of the historical experience of peacekeeping was conducted in order to analyse critically its present potentials and problems. It was based on the presentation of papers by select practitioners and scholars to generate a discussion between participants on major topics relating to peacekeeping. Peacekeepers, mainly military personnel, lack comprehension of the international political context of such operations. Discussion of this topic will facilitate consideration of the expectations, limitations and results of these operations.
