Abstract

In this chapter we want to review the contribution of developmental psychology and socialisation theories to understanding human development through the life course. This is the area in which a psychodynamic approach is usually favoured by social work trainers. We consider that academic psychology has much to offer also, and this should be made explicit to social work students and practitioners.
