Abstract
In any discussion of Western popular culture three areas always become sharply defined: what is mass or popular culture, what is American popular culture and in what ways has Europe adapted and absorbed that form of popular culture branded American, for it is this play off against Americanisation, at once so foreign and yet so familiar that is so fascinating.
