Abstract

They are soon to open a Museum of the First World War in Picardy. The place chosen for the site lies slightly east of the Somme battlefields, in Péronne. Of course they had to think of the comfort and convenience of the potential visitors, some of whom might be more attracted to the battlefields of the Somme if they could be comforted at night by a jollier show, which means proximity to Paris. So they selected a place by the motorway that links Paris to Germany via Belgium and to England via the Channel. Tourists of the First World War can thus take in the whole show at one gulp, replenishing their emotions along with their fuel tanks.
