Abstract
In this, and in the next three chapters, we come to a more detailed consideration of particular plays and, where possible, of these plays as events. Some have been published and although I have not seen them on stage, I can comment on their theatrical potential and other people’s observations of them in action. Performances for children have not always been given the journalistic attention they are worth but there has been some improvement in their status of late. For some plays a typescript has been available and typescripts do sometimes get passed around the companies. Again, I have been able to lay my hands on a number of these. There are other plays which were never written down and existed only in performance. Since I did not start systematically recording events until the 1980s, my accounts of performances are necessarily confined to plays which either originated in or survived into the present decade.
