Abstract
The term Juvenile Justice System, when it is used in this book, refers to the laws, professional practices and institutions created to respond to children and young people aged 10 to 17 years in England and Wales who are suspected, or found guilty of, committing a criminal offence. It is a system which is beset with problems and contradictions.
