Abstract

The main objective of this study is to show the relevance of agricultural trade for the global economic development of Argentina, examine how this key relation is affected by protectionism, and analyse the way in which Argentina could take advantage of the Uruguay Round of GATT negotiations to improve its market access and enhance development through agricultural growth.

This chapter deals with subject matter developed in two studies coordinated by F. Cirio within the project entitled “Modernizacion del Sector Agropecuario Argentino’, Secretaria de Agricultura, Ganaderia y Pesca/IICA; 1986/87.
