Appraising the Adjustment of Autumn Grain Prices

Abstract

An abundant autumn grain harvest in our province is now within sight. During this period the Party and the Government have adopted measures to adjust grain prices. The central purchase price for autumn grain has been adjusted upwards by 5 to 14.4 per cent according to the different types of grain, but the central selling price has been kept rigorously unchanged in the prefectures, regions and in Guiyang city. In markets of the county towns and those at lower levels, where a consequence of raising the purchase price is that the central selling price is now lower than the purchase price, appropriate adjustment is to be made so that the purchase and selling prices are the same. This important economic measure will encourage peasant incentives in production and promote a high tide in the grasping of a rich harvest.
