Abstract
Heavy menstruation is a subjective problem. Studies of women complaining of excessive menstrual loss have shown that there is no correlation between the actual blood loss, the number of pads used, haemoglobin levels, nor the state of iron stores when compared with women who consider their menstrual loss to be normal. It is an imprecise and non-objective complaint, although it must not be underestimated as it may be a source of great distress to the patient and her partner.
