Abstract

The hypothalamus lies in the base of the brain around the floor of the third ventricle, in the area between the optic chiasma and the mammillary bodies. It contains many nuclear groups (see Figure 1.1) including:

  1. 1.

    Paraventricular nuclei

  2. 2.

    Supraoptic nuclei

  3. 3.

    Ventromedial nuclei

  4. 4.

    Median eminence.
