Abstract
To concentrate on producers, as this chapter does, is not to deny or denigrate the many tasks, the many roles and parts played by the army of people who go to make up broadcast productions. But as the quotation which starts this discussion highlights, the role of producer is perceived by most broadcasters as the critical one.
