Abstract
The achievement of Disraeli in the world of letters and politics was remarkable. He became prime minister and statesman, and during the six years (1874–80) he was leading the Tory government, he negotiated the purchase of the Suez Canal, acquired Cyprus, and arranged affairs so that Queen Victoria was crowned Empress of India.
