Abstract
Richard Crashaw was born in London, the son of a prominent puritan divine. He was educated at Charterhouse and Pembroke Hall, Cambridge. In 1636 he migrated to Peterhouse, where he was elected to a Fellowship. He was ejected from his Fellowship by the parliamentary commissioners in 1643. In 1646 he travelled to Paris, and had by this time been converted to Roman Catholicism. In about 1648 he travelled to Italy. He was appointed to a post at the shrine of Loreto, where he died shortly thereafter.
