Abstract

Fulke Greville was born in Warwickshire, the son of an eminent landowner. He was educated at Shrewsbury School, where he was an exact contemporary of Philip Sidney, and attended Jesus College, Cambridge. In 1577 he went to court, where he quickly became a favourite of the queen. On the accession of James I he was knighted, and in 1621 he was raised to the peerage and granted Warwick Castle; seven years later he was murdered there by a servant.
