Abstract

Robert Ian Hamilton was born in King’s Lynn, and educated at Darlington Grammar School and Keble College, Oxford. He founded and edited the poetry magazines The Review (1962–9) and The New Review (1974–9). His books of subtle and humane verse include Pretending Not to Sleep: Poems (1964), The Visit: Poems (1970), and Anniversary and Vigil (1971).
