Abstract

No living language stands still. Words and expressions die and are born, and new social circumstances, new inventions, new concepts all lead to changes in the language. This chapter collects together four extracts which survey some of this changing linguistic landscape. Some explanations are given for difficult vocabulary or references which might not be clear, and some suggestions are made for helping comprehension by directing the reader’s attention to specific points. Otherwise these articles are intended as further reading material with information of interest to learners of German, and there are no grammatical exercises.
