Abstract
In the contribution to the Arts by the German-speaking countries, music ranks very high. Vienna provided the inspirational setting for the compositions of Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Mahler and many others. And Austria keeps its musical heritage alive with a whole series of annual music festivals, most notably the Salzburg Festival and the International Vienna Festival described below. The Vienna Festival represents another aspect of Austrian culture besides musical genius, namely its cosmopolitan and international flavour.
