Abstract
There cannot be many local or regional newspapers with a political staff of 4 — to cover local and national events — plus a shared lobby correspondent at Westminster. Nor can there be many with up to 11 editions every weekday, to cover an area extending little more than 10 miles from its centre. The Coventry Evening Telegraph has 100 journalists and expects to generate over 150 stories each day. It is a prosperous newspaper, selling about 96 000 copies each weekday in an area with some 750 000 people.
