Abstract

Within the field of data processing there is a wide diversity of applications and an almost equally wide range of environments in which they operate. Given that data processing extends into almost every facet of commercial and industrial life it might seem difficult, if not impossible, to identify any general requirements for applications. Experience shows, however, that a number of features are common to the majority of successful applications. It is therefore important that these features receive special attention during the systems development process.
