Understanding Crime in a Changing Society
In Chapter 1, I suggested that this text was intended to be a guide to the principal attractions of the sociology of crime. A further purpose is to help in the understanding of a world and its problems which are changing rapidly in the late twentieth century. In this, the final chapter, I want to show how the book may, I hope, be profitably used to aid a wider understanding of social change in general and of the distinctive aspects of crime. Equipped with a set of insights and travellers’ tips, it will then be time for us to try and anticipate the future.
