First of all, as this paper will be devoted to an issue which concerns me closely; may I introduce myself? I come from the island of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. Lewis, is, perhaps, with possible objections from some of the other islands, one of the strongest bastions of Gaelic at a time when the language is in decline.
