The distant origins of the Spanish cabinet are to be found in the administrative reforms introduced under Felipe V in 1714. However, it was not until 1834, after several significant changes in its history, that the parliamentary system began to emerge and that the first steps were taken in the direction of a cabinet independent of the monarch. Since then, the Spanish parliamentary system has been interrupted several times and has also appreciably altered. Its working is currently governed by the Constitution of 1978.
