Abstract
In most of Pinter’s plays the past is unclear: Stanley’s transgression (The Birthday Party), Aston’s experience in the mental asylum (The Caretaker), adultery (The Collection), and so forth. More prominently than before, however, the works treated in this chapter focus on the past. Usually they are called memory plays.
