Abstract
The year 1986, declared by the UN General Assembly as Year of Peace, will go down in history for the many concrete proposals aimed at slowing down the arms race, and for disarmament. If these proposals were realised, the conditions for peaceful coexistence of countries with different social economic systems would be re-established. This would amount to the creation of conditions for lasting peace.
