Abstract

On 20 May 1948, the Security Council appointed Count Folke Bernadotte, President of the Swedish Red Cross, UN mediator for Palestine. The GA empowered the mediator to cooperate with the Truce Commission (appointed in April that year) in observing the truce and in endeavouring to achieve a solution to the conflict.1
