Abstract

Whatever goals individuals appear to seek for themselves in life, there seems to be an imperative need for all of us to feel valued for ourselves. There are very many different ways in which people seek this valuation. Some seek it through making money, both because of the power that it brings and the possessions that they can buy. Others seek it through achievements in a particular field where their efforts bring recognition or applause. Many people seek it through a close relationship. Many women, particularly in the older age groups, base their valuation almost entirely on being needed by their family and friends.
