Abstract
The Warsaw Treaty Organisation (WTO) consists of the following members: The Soviet Union, Poland, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Rumania and Bulgaria. The treaty was signed in May 1955 and it formally legalised Soviet military presence in, and ‘protection’ of, its East European allies.
