Abstract

Teacher reports as well as empirical evidence lead to the conclusion that there are marked inter-and intra-individual differences in the energy that a pupil is prepared to spend so as to reach specific immediate and long-range goals. In order to come to grips with this variance in individual behaviour a distinction should be made between the individual’s normal, or habitual way of performing in a classroom context, and his behaviour in a specific situation.
