The Nurse’s Role in Health Promotion and Preventive Health Care of the Elderly

  • Chapter
The Ageing Population

Abstract

The widespread attachment of district nurses and health visitors to general practitioners has created the opportunity for a team approach to primary health care, but how these teams are organised and the way individual members operate vary to a considerable degree. This lack of uniformity reflects a combination of factors, including different priorities on the part of the employing Health Authorities, variations between individual nurses in the interpretation of their role and the differing expectations and referral policies of others, especially general practitioners.
