Abstract
The first few weeks of January saw an expansion of the rural revolt. Reports of the fighting were confused and incomplete. Government sources published very few details of the trouble, perhaps hoping that things might quieten down. But press reports compiled from rebel sources indicate the principal areas of mujahadeen activity for the early part of the year.
