Abstract

When officers loyal to the PDPA seized power in Kabul in April 1978, their act was described by many foreign observers (for example Louis Dupree, an American academic expert on the country) as a coup. For the tiny Afghan party, on the other hand, the events of that month were elevated to the ‘Great April Revolution’.
