Abstract
Practical writing is often referred to as transactional writing. That is a good description, because the subject is always some ‘business’ that Person A (the writer) has in hand with Person B (the reader). The purpose of such writing is to carry that practical matter — that ‘transaction’ — forward in some way. It is the essentially functional nature of practical writing that makes it different from personal and creative writing.
