Abstract

This chapter introduces the main themes of the book. It begins with a discussion of the relevance and usefulness of sociology in social work practice and what social workers should derive from studying it. This leads to an examination of the relationship between theory and practice in social work and different sociological approaches. At the end of the chapter I outline the way the rest of the book is organised.
