Abstract

In the 1970s and early 1980s there were a very large number of politically motivated kidnaps in Latin America, specifically targeting foreign businessmen. Though there still are a number of these, criminally motivated kidnaps now greatly exceed them. There is some brutality but generally nothing like the bestiality of some of the Italian kidnappers described in the next chapter.
