Abstract

The North American Aerospace Defence (NORAD) agreement comes up for renewal in May 1986. The terms of this renewal, now being debated before a committee of the Canadian House of Commons (the Standing Committee on External Affairs and National Defence), are bound to have far-reaching implications since the basis for NORAD is today being challenged by a fundamental recasting of US nuclear strategy.
