Abstract

Our study of reliability has so far completely ignored the all-important factor of maintenance. However, we have been able to build up a fairly detailed understanding of the behaviour of the non-maintained component and to substantiate this knowledge with field experience and evidence. Since the non-maintained item is the building brick of all more complex maintained equipment we are in a strong position to further our studies by introducing maintenance.
