Abstract

Jean Baptiste Joseph, Baron de Fourier, was thirty years old when he accompanied Napoleon on the latter’s Egyptian campaign in 1798. He became governor of Lower Egypt and contributed many scientific papers to the Egyptian Institute which Napoleon founded, but when the French army capitulated in 1801 he returned to France and was made Prefect of the Department of Grenoble.
