Abstract

Carcinoma of the cervix when at a pre-invasive stage may usually be cured by adequate treatment. For this reason intensive screening efforts have been concentrated on it, and figures for the States, and for England and Wales, do show a decline in the number of deaths. Nevertheless the tumour is responsible for about 2.5% of all deaths from malignant disease in the U.K., and there is a trend for it to appear at an earlier age.
