Abstract
Unemployment, in the sense in which we are using it, means being deprived of a job, a would-be employee in search of an employer. A slave cannot be unemployed, though he can be idle if he is given no work to do or if he can avoid it; nor can a serf, for his obligations are laid down by custom.
