Abstract
Many convoluted definitions of terrorism have been coined. In essence, terrorism is the use or threat of violence against small numbers to put large numbers in fear; or, as well put by an ancient Chinese philosopher: ‘kill one, frighten 10 000’. Criminal gangs apply this technique to dominate their districts and deter informers. Political terrorists use it to coerce officials and the public into doing things (or refraining from doing things) against their will.
