Corporatism and Urban Service Provision

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Sociology, Politics and Cities ((SOPC))

Abstract

This chapter reports on three case studies relating to state provision of urban services and/or state regulation of urban land-use and development. These three studies have two major features in common. First, they all document the development, in different ways and in different degrees, of corporatist strategies of urban management and policy-making. Second, all three studies were conducted using an analytical framework which has been termed a ‘dual state’ or ‘dual politics’ thesis. The aim of the chapter is both to develop insights into the role of corporatist mediation in urban politics, and to evaluate and clarify the dual politics thesis.
