Abstract
French theatre between the two World Wars reached a new high technically, philosophically, and psychologically. It saw a break with naturalism and impressionism; it witnesses an exploration into humankind’s murky depths; it revealed a need to shear away the mask concealing those mephitic realms so deeply entrenched in individuals and societies.
