Abstract
Much of the effort for the promotion of confidence measures would have a better chance of success if the societal texture of the modern world were understood. A better comprehension of the historical factors which combine to generate the Western mode of thought would certainly help in understanding the tensions and internal conflicts which result from the body of values, knowledge and technology. Of particular interest are the aspects of militarisation of society, because the build-up of the structure of social organisation, control and priorities can be basically modelled on the structures and values which are typical of the armed forces. In the analysis of the underlying philosophy of social stratification, the motives of industrial and technological development, and the goals of world order, I shall place emphasis on the philosophical, practical and technological bases of social and political organisations. I hope this will lead to some practical possibilities of a better conduct of our way to the future.
