Abstract

It seems tolerably clear that 1981 will see some sort of answer to the political question which has taken up so many editorial inches: whither the Centre? At least (to put the matter bluntly), Roy Jenkins retired from his eec job yesterday and it is almost universally believed that, with some degree of backing from David Steel, he will announce some large new centrist initiative within the next month or two.
