Abstract

Few people get rich working for someone else. Running your own business at least gives you the opportunity to make more money, but whether you become wealthy depends very much on the success you make of it. If the business does well you can determine the amount of money you take out as salary and can claim extra benefits on the firm (e.g. cars, pensions). Big businesses are only small businesses that succeed. If your business makes it to the big time you might consider going public, which will dramatically increase the value of the shares you hold, or you may decide to sell out for a large profit and retire in luxury.
