Abstract
It is well known that antidepressant drugs (AD) have to be administered for about two weeks to elicit a therapeutic effect in patients. On these grounds it may be assumed that repeated administration induces secondary effects which may be directly responsible for the antidepressive effect. Therefore, experiments on animals, treated repeatedly with AD, are of great importance for studying the mechanism of antidepressive action. The present paper compiles the results of our earlier and recent studies on the effects of AD given repeatedly on responses mediated by α1-adrenoceptors and dopamine (DA) receptors.
