Abstract
In the past, little attention has been paid to stress as an occupational hazard, and only managers were thought to suffer from it. Consequently the subject of stress and its effect on workers’ health has been neglected. But some 37 million working days are lost every year through stress-related illnesses whereas about 23 million days are lost through accidents at work, according to Mackay and Cox in Stress at Work, Chapter 7. In fact mental illnesses are increasing more rapidly than those due to any other cause.
